According to the testimony of some native people, it was Father Agustin Blessing, Missionary of Talamanca, the first white man who conquered the summit in 1904. Early expeditions occurred in 1905, 1913, 1915, 1920, 1932 and 1942. One of the most interesting geomorphological discoveries is made in the Chirripo, is that of the modeled glaciers and varied forms in a "U", moraines, terraces, glacial lakes and glacial cirques that show the passage of large ice tongues not beyond 2 or 3 km long, whose work dates back some 25,000 years.
