Actually, there are three main islands that make up the Bay Islands of Honduras, Roatan, the largest and currently very popular on the cruise ship circuit, Utila, the smallest, known for its whale sharks and Guanaja, which is the tallest of the three, has its own fresh water source from the mountain streams and no roads for cars. There are dozens of other, smaller cays that dot the Caribbean in this island chain and many privately owned.
The Jeanette Kawas National Park is located in the municipality of Tela, on the north Caribbean coast of Honduras Atlantida deparment. A fantastic park with abundant bird life, including the Lagoon of Los Micos.You may see different birds and with luck, some of the noisy Howler Monkeys.
Pico Bonito National Park in La Ceiba, is the third largest in Honduras. With an area over 107,241 hectares, Pico Bonito includes nineteen major watersheds that supply drinking water to more than five hundred thousand people from nearby communities. The various spots in the park include pine forests and biodiversity crammed with tropical foliage.
